Buying a slitting machine from China can start with a reference machine or a description of what you need to process. You do not need a complete technical specification before making an enquiry.
In our sourcing work, some customers send photographs, nameplates or specifications of machines they have seen in their own country. Others share an online listing or simply tell us the machine name, the material they want to slit and the finished widths they need.
We use this information to identify potentially suitable machines, share machine details and an initial quotation, and work through the specifications with the customer.
Start with Reference Information or Your Processing Requirements
If you have a reference machine, you can send photographs, a nameplate, a specification sheet or a product link. Explain which features or functions you are looking for.
If you do not have a reference, describe the machine you need and the work it should perform. For a slitting machine, useful starting information includes:
- The material you want to slit.
- The material thickness.
- The width of the incoming material.
- The required finished strip widths, including the narrowest width.
Either approach gives us a starting point. We can then send details of a proposed machine for you to review and confirm whether it matches your needs.
Clarify the Incoming Width and Finished Slitting Widths
Two different widths need to be clear when discussing a slitting machine.
Incoming material width is the width of the material before slitting. A machine specification may describe its capacity as “Max Web Width.” This refers to the material width the machine can handle, rather than the overall width of the machine itself.
Finished slitting width is the required width of each strip after slitting. Tell us the widths you intend to produce, including the smallest one.
In our sourcing process, the required incoming width helps us identify an appropriate machine size. We then confirm the remaining specifications with the customer and supplier.
Material thickness should be stated separately so that the supplier can assess the proposed machine against the material and processing requirements.
Review a Proposed Machine Before Finalising the Configuration
Once we understand the initial requirements, we can provide details and an initial quotation for a potentially suitable machine.
The customer reviews this proposal and confirms whether it is the right type of equipment. We then clarify individual specifications and any configuration changes needed.
This allows the enquiry to develop step by step, even when the customer begins with limited technical information.

These are quoted specifications for one configuration, rather than verified test results or specifications for every machine we source. Suitability and performance for your material need to be confirmed with the supplier.
Confirm the Details in the Quotation
Before proceeding with an order, make sure the quotation records the agreed machine model, specifications and included equipment.
In particular, check that the proposed configuration reflects your material, incoming width, finished widths, roll dimensions and roll weight. Clarify the quoted speed and precision in relation to your intended application.
Keeping these details together gives both the customer and supplier a clear reference when reviewing the order.
